Flemish, circa 1600, oak with original polychrome.
An unusual carving which could have formed part of an Adoration group showing a servant holding the horse of one of the Three Kings and as such it would have been on a large scale. The stylized treatment of the leaves of the tree is very similar in composition to those shown on Flemish tapestries.
